Instead, he has yet another double ear infection, and lot of fluid behind his ear drum, which the doctor says might make it seem to him as if he were listening to us from under water.
He also said two sets of double ear infections in a row, in and of themselves, is not cause for concern.
But just to set me at ease, when we've gone through this round of antibiotics and gotten the all-clear in three weeks, he said he'll give me a referral to the audiology center for a hearing test.
Now see? Aren't you glad I didn't jump to conclusions and assume my child had progressive hearing loss? Aren't you glad I didn't worry about this since there wasn't really anything to worry about?
Ahem.
(P.S. Thanks for all the support over the last couple days, as I was absolutely NOT WORRYING about this!)

ReplyDeleteYay for ear infections! Hooray for you for doing your research and totally not worrying at all about the most extreme diagnoses. If it is any sort of comfort, I was always in the nurse's office for ear infections and nosebleeds and I lived to tell the tale! I turned out (relatively) ok! I hope his bout with ear infections comes to a swift end and he feels like his regular happy self again soon!

ReplyDeletethis might be a completely annoying "let me tell you about the time when i had something similar" but i did once have a really bad cold that lasted a while and made my ears feel fluid filled for weeks. it wasn't an infection as far as i could tell, and it eventually went away... but there were a NUMBER of conversations where i had no idea what was going on because i couldn't hear right, and i got the sense that i was being loud and it was awkward...
Good thing that super wise Laura Case said the same thing! hahahaha!
