Hurricane Sandy is headed our way.
It is being called the Frankenstorm, because of its projected strength, predicted damage and the fact that it is likely to collide with a winter storm coming this way at about the same time.
Forecasters and Baltimore residents are losing their ish over this storm.
"The pre-Halloween hybrid weather monster that federal forecasters call
"Frankenstorm" is looking more ominous by the hour for the East Coast,
and utilities and local governments are getting ready," said one news article.
The ingredients awaiting Hurricane Sandy appear to be coming together
to create what forecasters are calling a monster combination of high
wind, heavy rain, extreme tides and maybe snow that could cause havoc
along the East Coast just before Halloween next week.
"We're looking
at one of the worst storms on record that we've seen in this region,"
said a hurricane specialist for The Weather Channel.
"It's going to be a long-lasting event of two to three days for a lot of people,'' another forecaster warned.
I have to admit to be panicking a little bit, too. Three kids under age 3 -- and a crazy cat -- stuck in a house without power for any length of time = NO FUN. What will we eat?
And my husband is totally opposed to preparing for storms. He thinks it makes zero sense to stock the house with things you might need, because - no matter what -- somewhere there will be a store with stuff to buy, and we can also go to a hotel, if necessary. I would rather have the stuff at our house, but I'm overruled in this area. Therefore, I really hope we don't get hit too hard. Really.
But there is one upside to this whole storm.
That darn fall festival that I had to buy overalls and stuff for? Postponed! Yippeee!
It's only postponed by two days, but still. Now I have more time to try to find the things they need, without having to spend too much money.
So at least in this case, hooray for Sandy!

Too funny. Although I have to say to Lester, have you LIVED in the area when a storm comes? Every store will be sold out of EVERYTHING by the time Sunday rolls around. Mark my words. You should at least get batteries and make sure your flashlights are handy. What I don't understand is why people feel like they have to stock up on toilet paper when s storm comes. What is that all about? I will probably hit Target tonight for batteries and bottled water. And maybe lots of non-perishable snacks. And CASH. Stores may be open, but their card-thingys might not work. I don't know, Tanika--Lester might need an OVERRULED in this case! LOL
I just texted Beth to try to get your cell phone number so I can text you!!! LESTER OVERRULED!!
I lived in a town in Florida that got hit by a tropical storm. NOT a hurricane. We couldn't even leave our house for 3 days due to flooding. No power was the least of our worries (we did lose power so had a BBQ with all the food in the freezer). The street in front of the house was a literal river, we boated down it.
AT THE VERY LEAST, please make sure you have enough formula for Clair and bottled water to make formula. And fill your bathtubs with fresh water. You can use the bathtub water to brush teeth, get toilets to flush, etc if you lose power.
Not preparing for a hurricane at all is INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know this may be a day late and a ton of dollars short, but OVERRULE LESTER! You can use us as Exhibit A. We evacuated, but were still devastated! Please keep in touch any way you can. I found via text to be the easiest and least bothersome way for me during Hurricane Isaac.
Side note: Yet again our lives seem to parallel. I think we really are twins separated at birth. First crazy siblings now crazy abnormal storms! Why is it always the crazy???? I hope you miss the worst of it.
Dude, as a recovering Floridian, I third the "Lester overruled" sentiment. Go get some bottled water, propane for your grill, and flashlights. Then enjoy the rain.
All: Lester did all this and more. I never should have doubted him! Thanks for all your concern! We rode out the storm with more food than any family could ever eat, and I now have gained five pounds. YAY!
